‘Rules-Based Order’ Playing With Nuclear Fire
The world is sitting on a powder keg, as there are now two major conflicts which could turn into a Global War at any moment. Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant is scheduled to visit Washington DC this week to discuss a potential response to Iran’s missile attack of last week, itself in retaliation for previous attacks by Israel in Lebanon, and an attempt to bring the US fully into the war against the Islamic Republic at the same time. Unfortunately, there is no opposition to the Israeli position in the Democratic or Republican parties, and apparently no awareness of the dangers involved.
However, after one full year of unimaginable barbarity in Gaza, followed by indiscriminate targeting of civilians in Lebanon as well, the international community is no longer what it used to be. Gaza has become not only the graveyard of innocent children, but also a graveyard of the Rules-based Order!
At the same time, the capture of the town of Wuhledar (Ugledar) in Donbas by the Russian forces has unleashed something of a panic in the West, exposing a far starker reality than what is shown by the mainstream media. The conflict could have been avoided, had the neocon Russophobes in NATO agreed to negotiations. It was also necessary for NATO to respect Russia’s national interests in order to save hundreds of thousands of lives and (perhaps) the nationhood of Ukraine.
However, it would certainly not be admitted by the NATO allies attending the meeting of the Ukraine Contact Group on October 12, 2024 in Ramstein, Germany, without the participation of US President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr who abruptly cancelled his visit (to Germany) just a couple of days before his scheduled arrival on October 10.
Whether Russia’s revised Nuclear Doctrine, which specifically targets Nuclear States that assist aggression against Russian territory, has been understood by the West’s War Party, is doubtful, although various proposals for a ceasefire have been raised for the first time.
In any case, in the less than four weeks to the US Presidential Elections, tensions can be expected to continue rising on both fronts – and they may just explode after that. The Schiller Institute and the International Peace Coalition have increased their organisational efforts to try and prevent that from happening.
Israeli Policy Promotes Rapprochement Among Islamic Nations
“Where Is Israel Heading, When the Only Horizon Its Leaders Offer Is War?” Such is the question posed by Haaretz, one of Israel’s leading dailies, in its October 2, 2024 edition. The editorial noted: “Israel is taking giant steps towards a Regional War, while the world keeps asking itself: What does it want? Where is it heading?”
In fact, the policy chosen by the extremist Zionists in the Israeli Government, at the request of the Anglo-American War Party, can only lead to creating ever more enemies among its neighbours and to drastically endangering its own security. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), it also leads to an increase in anti-Semitism worldwide.
The Haaretz editorial further called attention to the intervention of Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on September 27 (2024) at the UN, where he “unequivocally” stated that all members of the Muslim-Arab Committee “are willing to guarantee the security of Israel in the context of Israel ending the occupation and allowing for the emergence of a Palestinian State”.
As far as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is concerned, he has shown restraint until now, but the situation could rapidly escalate. He travelled to Doha last week to attend the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), where, according to Reuters, the Gulf Arab States reassured him that they would remain neutral in the event of a war, involving Iran and Israel. It may also mean that they would not allow the US to use their air bases to attack Iran.
Importantly, the Iranian President also held a separate meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud during which they agreed to bury their differences and develop friendly relations. Prince Faisal also penned an op-ed in the Financial Times, stressing that Saudi Arabia would not establish diplomatic relations with Israel until an Independent Palestinian State is established.
From the US, a huge chorus of voices is calling on Israel to escalate. President Biden has made clear that Israel has the right to strike Iran, although he wants the Jewish State to avoid hitting the Iranian oil fields or nuclear sites. Donald Trump, on the contrary, criticised President Biden at an event on October 4, saying: “The answer should have been to hit the nuclear first and worry about the rest later.”
Meanwhile, the killing and the genocide in Gaza continue unabated, as Lebanon is bombed and large swaths of land are abandoned.
