Netanyahu’s Public Absence Intensifies Speculation

The Tasnim News Agency of Iran has triggered a sensation across the globe with unverified claims that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin ‘Bibi’ Netanyahu has been killed or seriously injured in recent retaliatory strikes. The four-day public absence of Netanyahu, his cancelled video messages and the unexplained cancellation of a top-level US envoy visit to Tel Aviv have intensified speculation, as the Israeli officials maintain complete silence.

The report published by Tasnim has stressed on the Israeli Prime Minister’s complete disappearance from public view for nearly four days. According to the agency, the dramatic departure from his usual practice of daily video messages is strong evidence that something significant has occurred.

Interestingly, the Iranian media outlet has mentioned that Netanyahu, since his disappearance, has issued only written statements, with no accompanying videos or photographs. The area around the Israeli Prime Minister’s official residence has also been placed under extraordinary security measures, although no official explanation has been provided. The Tasnim report claimed that far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Netanyahu’s brother Iddo might also have been killed.

Surprisingly, US Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner recently cancelled their planned visit to Tel Aviv scheduled for March 10, 2026. The trip was intended for high-level talks on the ongoing war with Iran. The Israeli media reported the cancellation without explanation, and neither US nor Israeli officials have commented on this.

Most importantly, the Israeli authorities have neither accepted nor denied the Iranian claims. The official silence, combined with the cancelled visit and extraordinary security measures, has allowed speculation to flourish across international media.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, has prompted US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright to delete one of his social media posts. Earlier, Wright wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that the US Navy recently escorted an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz and the tanker successfully passed through the strait. In response, Qalibaf said: “Did an oil tanker escorted by the US Navy pass through the Strait of Hormuz? Maybe on PlayStation.” Later, the US Energy Secretary deleted his post.

Reports suggest that some top advisers within the Trump Administration have requested the US President to officially declare a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Iran. They have argued that a diplomatic exit is now the most viable path as Washington DC has met its primary military objectives.

Switzerland Condemns US Military Campaign Against Iran
Switzerland has officially stepped away from its traditional stance of neutrality to condemn the joint US-Israeli military campaign against Iran. In a stern address, senior Swiss officials labelled the ongoing airstrikes and targeted assassinations as a direct violation of international law. With this, they have signalled a major rift in Western diplomatic consensus.

The Swiss Government has also expressed deep concern over the disregard for national sovereignty and the escalating humanitarian toll across West Asia. As a global hub for diplomacy and the home of the Geneva Conventions, Switzerland’s legal assessment carries significant weight in the global community and could influence future war crimes inquiries.

The rare public criticism follows reports of widespread damage to non-military infrastructure and civilian centres in various Iranian provinces. Bern has called for an immediate return to the negotiating table, warning that the current path of pre-emptive strikes sets a dangerous precedent for global security.

On the domestic front, the Swiss statement reflects a growing pressure from citizens who value the nation’s historical role as a mediator rather than a silent observer of conflict. By aligning with international legal standards, Switzerland aims to preserve its status as a trusted neutral ground for future peace talks.

As other European nations, like Norway and Spain, have also voiced their opposition, the US and Israel face increasing isolation in their pursuit of regime change in Tehran. The global community is now looking to see if Switzerland will back its rhetoric with formal diplomatic sanctions or mediation offers.

In a separate development, Irene Montero, a member of the European Parliament (EP) from Spain, has directly challenged President Trump over the Iran War, asking him to send his own children to the front line. At the same time, she has mentioned that Spain wants its children safe at home.

Montero has also labelled President Trump the Hitler of the 21st Century, calling for Spain to leave NATO. She has argued that the US and Israel are the main threats to global security. She further criticised bombing campaigns, stating that no woman has ever been freed by American Fire in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan or Iran.
