The Not-So-Young Turks…
Turkey had failed to become a member of the European Union (EU) even after moving its capital from Istanbul to Ankara way back in 1923. Perhaps, the European leaders rightly realised that it might not be a wise decision to join hands with a country that had washed its hands off the Secular Ideologies of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk long ago. Turkey has turned out to be branded a trouble-maker for the Global Community in recent times… thus, establishing the fact that the wise men in Europe had made a right decision, indeed!
Andreas Mountzouralias, a Greek journalist, recently claimed that authoritarian Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was planning to send his own fighters to different parts of Asia, from Eastern Syria to Kashmir (India), in an attempt to destabilise the region! In a report titled ‘Erdogan sends mercenaries to Kashmir’ (published in Pentapostagma), the journalist revealed the proposed plans of President Erdoğan in details. He mentioned that Turkey has decided to extend its influence to Muslims in West Asia and also in South Asia in order to counter Saudi Arabia’s dominance of the Islamic World.

Perhaps, President Erdoğan has taken a leaf out of the Khilafat Movement. The Khilafat Movement, also known as the Indian Muslim Movement (1919-24), was a pan-Islamist political protest campaign launched by Muslims of British India led by Shaukat Ali, Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Hakim Ajmal Khan and Abul Kalam Azad to restore the Caliph of the Ottoman Caliphate. Ottoman Caliphate was considered the leader of Sunni Muslims and an effective political authority. It was a protest against the sanctions placed on the Caliph and the Ottoman Empire after the WWI by the Treaty of Sèvres. The movement collapsed by late 1922 when Turkey gained a more favourable diplomatic position and moved towards Secularism. By 1924, Turkey simply abolished the role of Caliph.
According to Mountzouralias, Pakistan is playing an important role in the Turkish President’s venture, as Ankara and Islamabad have already prepared a plan to achieve the goal of President Erdoğan. As per the plan, the Pakistani fighter jets would take part in the Turkish operation ‘Shield of the Mediterranean’, helping President Erdoğan plunder Greek lands. The Greek reporter further stated that the Turkish President decided to send mercenaries to Kashmir in order to create troubles for India. He might even pay USD 2,000 to each fighter for this purpose! Such a move would ultimately allow Pakistan to gain a Strategic Advantage in South Asia.

Quoting local sources, Mountzouralias mentioned in his report that Abu Emsa, currently heading the Brigade of Suleiman Shah – a gang that recently joined the Syrian National Army (SMO), informed the members of the brigade in Afrin last week that the Turkish State was ready to boost the morale of rebels in Kashmir. Emsa said that the Turkish officers would soon ask SMO commanders to state their names, who would like to join the Mission Kashmir. During a meeting in Schiege, he told the SMO members that Kashmir is as mountainous as Nagorno- Karabakh, where the Turkish soldiers were assisting the Azerbaijani Forces in fighting against the Armenian Troops. Later, Emsa informed the Erdoğan Administration in Ankara that he would also conduct this activity in Ezaz, Gerablus, Bap, Afrin and Idlib in the coming days, and would soon choose names of the gangs, who would be secretly sent to Kashmir.

Although Şakir Özkan Torunlar, the Turkish Ambassador to India, has termed the report as baseless and false, it is an open secret that the Turkish President has pumped up Egypt against Ethiopia, Azerbaijan against Armenia, Pakistan against India, Iran against the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and GCC against Israel in recent times. Turkey, in a way, owes its existence to Kurds, whom they themselves had backstabbed in the past. Turkey’s success and prosperity has been possible because of Western European firms, which are still providing Ankara with modern amenities, as well as weapons.
Money is playing a big role here, as Turkey earns a huge amount of foreign exchange through extortion, insider trading, drug trafficking and illegal gambling! Now, it may have thought of investing a portion of that money in terrorist activities, and in destabilising the Democratic World.
