Trump, Netanyahu Discuss Fresh Iran Strikes

While Legislative Elections are scheduled to be held in Israel on October 27, 2026, Elections to the US House of Representatives will take place on November 3. Informed circles and recent political developments in Israel hint that Prime Minister Benjamin ‘Bibi’ Netanyahu‘s political future is highly uncertain as his hold on power will be fiercely challenged by both a coordinated opposition and fractured support within his own Right-wing bloc. According to political analysts, the November 3 Midterm Elections would determine whether Republicans retain control of the US Congress and seal the fate of President Donald John Trump ahead of the next Presidential Elections. In such a situation, the two leaders have reportedly decided to launch a fresh attack on Iran mainly to divert the attention of their voters.

Media reports suggest that intelligence agencies of Israel and the US recently learned that the Islamic Republic started to rebuild its nuclear infrastructure, yet again. A senior Israeli official has claimed that Prime Minister Netanyahu is deeply concerned by Iran’s move. Hence, he discussed the issue with President Trump over phone in the second week of October 2026.

Meanwhile, a US official has informed the press that President Trump explicitly ruled out launching any military strikes against the West Asian nation prior to the November 3 Midterm Elections. In a recent announcement on Truth Social, the President declared that the US would not initiate attacks during this pre-election window, citing ongoing and “productive discussions” with Tehran.

However, Axios, citing sources close to Washington DC, has reported that preparations are underway in the US to launch a fresh attack on the Islamic Republic. The US President has also advised Prime Minister Netanyahu to be prepared. Interestingly, Trump did not provide any assurance as to when the fresh attack might take place.

On condition of anonymity, an Israeli official stressed President Trump’s initial response suggested that he was interested when the possibility of resuming the war was first raised by the Israeli Prime Minister. Now, it seems he is hesitant. A US official confirmed the claim, stating that President Trump was not sure whether it would be a right decision to start a war with Iran again. Although US Secretary of Defence Peter Brian Hegseth and the top leadership of US Central Command (CENTCOM) supported the proposal to resume combat operations, some advisers of the President argued in favour of maintaining sanctions rather than going to war.

On February 28, 2026, Israel and the US, driven by the suspicion that Iran was operating as a nuclear threshold state, launched a joint attack on the West Asian nation. As the joint US-Israeli attack eliminated Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei, Tehran retaliated, triggering a fierce conflict. Since then, West Asia has remained highly volatile due to a cycle of attacks and counter-attacks.
