Iran-Israel Truce Holds, Doubt Remains
Although Israel and Iran reportedly accepted a ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald John Trump on June 24, 2025 to end their 12-day war, the US President accused both of violating the ceasefire after explosions were heard in Tehran and Tel Aviv in the evening (local time). While the terms of the ceasefire remain unclear, its status remains seemingly fragile (if in place).

On June 22, 2025, a renowned West Asian media outlet published an article, titled: ‘By bombing Iran, the US continues to make the world safe for war‘. It is a catchy heading indeed, as the goal of a successful headline is to present a number of statements in a few words. The outside world is yet to realise the actual impact of the US attacks at Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz nuclear sites of Iran. Although President Trump has described the strikes as “very successful“, it is quite difficult to guess the real situation there. However, there is no doubt that if the unexpected and unprovoked bombings of the Iranian nuclear facilities are not successful, then the danger could be much greater than ever. It has been proven that a foreign country can launch terrifying attacks in such a manner. Hence, it is better for any country to stock up on ammunition as a precautionary measure.

Iran repeatedly claimed that it was generating nuclear power, and not producing nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, Israel did not believe the claim and started the war out of fear that the Islamic Republic might attack the Jewish Nation. The US, too, encouraged the Zionist Regime to attack Iran. It is also a fact that a section of the US military and administrative officials, including Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, have dismissed the claim that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. According to them, there is no concrete evidence that Tehran has made great progress in developing such weapons. Hence, President Trump has started maintaining a distance with some of his administrative officials, like Gabbard.
Whether Iran has been focused on developing nuclear weapons or not, the US attacks on nuclear facilities at Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow would surely prompt the West Asian nation to move towards a more formidable nuclear capability. In a sense, Iran would be more prepared for a war.

The recent developments in West Asia have made a couple of things clear. Firstly, the US, by launching attacks on Iran, has set a new milestone as to how far it could go for Israel. People have been staging protests against the Israeli atrocities in Gaza on the American soil for so long. And now, the US has got directly involved in the Iran-Israel War. Many US politicians are quite surprised with President Trump’s move as they are of the opinion that the President has made a mistake by attacking Iran because it is not their war.

The deep-seated hostility between Iran and the US is often traced back to the 1979 Islamic Revolution. This event led to the overthrow of the US-backed Shah and the establishment of an Islamic Republic, fundamentally altering the geopolitical landscape and setting the stage for decades of conflict, as well as mistrust. In his 2002 State of the Union address, George W Bush, the then President of the US, labelled Iran, along with Iraq and North Korea, as part of an Axis of Evil. However, no US President has ever engaged in a direct confrontation with Iran, instead avoiding such a possibility.
Trump has shown that he can make rash decisions not only in internal matters, but also in foreign policy-related issues, without caring much about the consequences. He did not even discuss the matter with members of the US Congress or Senate before bombing the Iranian nuclear power plants. In other words, democratic norms have become so insignificant in Trump’s US.

Secondly, the nuclear issue has posed a completely different level of danger to global diplomacy since the Second World War. President Trump has made it clear that the US would never hesitate to push the rest of the world into the worst possible disaster for its own (and Israel’s) interests. Other Global Powers, like Britain, France, Russia, China, and the UN should act on an urgent basis in order to prevent the danger. Else, the new Unipolar World would face total destruction.
