India Strikes Back, Destroys Terror Camps In Pak
Exactly 14 days after the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists in India-administered-Kashmir, India carried out Operation Sindoor in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) at 1:44am (Indian Standard Time) on May 7, 2025 mainly to destroy terrorist camps.
On May 7, the Indian Ministry of Defence issued a statement, mentioning that the Indian fighter jets carried out the precision strikes, targeting terrorist infrastructure at nine locations in the neighbouring country. According to the statement, the Indian Armed Forces have struck at all the places from where the Pakistan-sponsored terrorists planned, as well as ordered, the Pahalgam terror attack. Islamabad, too, has confirmed the Indian air strike, stating that eight people were killed in the attack, and not 70 as claimed by India.
The Director General (Public Relations) of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI, the premier intelligence agency of Pakistan) told the media on May 7 morning that the Indian forces carried out 24 attacks on a total of six locations in Pakistan at around 1:44am (IST). He claimed that the Indian Armed Forces carried out attacks on civilians, too, as 43 received serious injuries. It may be noted that New Delhi had issued a statement immediately after the Pahalgam terror attack, stressing that India would respond to Pakistan for the attack at “time and place of its choosing”. On May 7, the Narendra Modi Administration described Operation Sindoor as a calibrated and measured response, saying that the Indian Armed Forces conducted strikes only on terror infrastructure.

Images and videos of the destruction in Pakistan after Operation Sindoor have emerged on media (and also on social media), showing the Indian airstrikes demolishing multiple buildings, including the headquarters of banned terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in Pakistan. New Delhi has claimed that terrorists used those buildings for training purposes. The images have also captured actions taken by the Pakistani administration after the attack.

The Indian Army held a press conference at 10:30am on May 7 in New Delhi to discuss Operation Sindoor in the presence of Foreign Secretary of India Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Indian Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force. Misri told the press: “As you are all aware, on April 22, 2025, Pakistani and Pakistan-trained terrorists belonging to the LeT carried out a savage attack on Indian tourists at Pahalgam. They murdered 26 people, including one national of Nepal, causing the largest number of civilian casualties in a terrorist attack in India since the November 26, 2008 attacks in Mumbai. The attack in Pahalgam was marked by extreme barbarity, with the victims mostly killed with headshots from close range and in front of their families. Family members were deliberately traumatised through the manner of the killing, accompanied by the exhortation that they should take back the message.“
The Indian Foreign Secretary further said: “Earlier this morning as you would be aware India exercised its right to respond and pre-empt, as well as deter, more such cross-border attacks. These actions were measured, non-escalatory, proportionate and responsible. They focused on dismantling the terrorist infrastructure and disabling terrorists likely to be sent across to India.“

For their part, Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Singh stated that the attack took place at Markaz Subhan Allah (Bahawalpur), Markaz Taiba (Muridke), Sarjal (Tehra Kalan), Mehmoona Joya (Sialkot, 6km inside Pakistan from the international border), Markaz Ahle Hadith (Barnala), Markaz Abbas (Kotli), Maskar Raheel Shahid (Kotli), Shawai Nalla Camp (Muzaffarabad) and Syedna Bilal Camp (Muzaffarabad). They claimed that the terrorists receive training at those places. “No civilians have been harmed yet. Only some buildings have been targeted. Those buildings have been demolished with the help of technology. There has been no attack on the Pakistani military bases,” added Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Singh.

Reports suggest that the Pakistani Army opened fire indiscriminately along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border in Kashmir, using artillery shelling from multiple posts, in the early hours of Wednesday. The global community has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating situation as India and Pakistan exchanged heavy fire along their border, with UN Secretary-General António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres calling for maximum military restraint from the two South Asian neighbours.
