The ‘Taste’ Experienced By A Yazidi Woman!
Fawzia Amin Sido, a 21-year-old Yazidi woman who has recently been rescued from Gaza by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), has made a bizarre claim, saying that the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists forced her to consume human babies’ meat!
Talking to a retired British soldier in the third week of October 2024, the young lady stressed that she had seen more cruelty than common people since her abduction, along with her brothers, by the IS at the age of nine. Sido recounted that the IS terrorists had captured the Iraqi city of Sinjar in 2024 and the Yazidis had experienced violence, murder and torture for the next three years! As per a UN report, nearly 5,000 Yazidis lost their lives during that period! The IS had also kidnapped nearly 11,000 Yezidi girls and women.
Sido was one of those girls who were forced to march from Sinjar to Tal Afar (52km east of Sinjar and 200km northwest of Kirkuk) in hot summer! The rescued lady told the former British soldier that she and other girls had walked continuously and were starved for three-four days.
All the hostages were given food upon their arrival at Tal Afar. The Jerusalem Post quoted Sido as saying: “They made rice and gave us meat to eat with it. The meat had a weird taste, and some of us had stomach aches afterwards.” She stated: “When we were done, they told us that this was the meat of Yazidi babies. They showed us pictures of beheaded babies and said: ‘These are the kids that you ate now.’” Sido added: “One woman suffered heart failure and died shortly after.” She also said that one mother had even recognised her own child because of the hands of her baby! “They forced us. But it’s very hard to know that it happened. But it was not in our hands,” insisted Sido.
Sido claimed that she, along with 200 other Yazidi women and children, was held captive for nine months in an underground prison! Some children perished in that prison because of contaminated water. Later, the IS terrorists sold Sido to multiple jihadi fighters, including Abu Amar al-Makdisi, with whom she had two children. al-Makdisi was a Syrian. From Syria, she was taken to Saudi Arabia and then again to Syria. Finally, she landed in Gaza with her children. Sido told the media: “Until I got back to Iraq, I was all the time a sabaya, also in Gaza.” Sabaya is the Arabic term for a young woman held captive and exploited sexually!
The IDF and the US Embassy rescued Sido from Gaza in the first week of October 2024. Although Sido has reunited with her family in Iraq, her children remain in Gaza with the family of their captor as they are being raised as Arab Muslims!
It may be noted that thousands of Yazidi women were enslaved by the IS during the outfit’s brutal campaign against this religious minority community in northern Iraq in 2014. Sido’s account has confirmed accusations made in the past that the IS had fed human flesh to their captives. Yazidi parliamentarian Vian Dakhil highlighted this practice in 2017 in a rare first!
Meanwhile, sociologists believe that the revelation made by Sido would certainly promote Islamophobia in the Western World.
