Comparative Politics: Issues, Methods And…
In his 1711 essay titled ‘Mischiefs of Party Spirit‘, English essayist, poet, playwright and politician Joseph Addison (May 1, 1672 – June 17, 1719) narrated how perfectly Politics paralyzes the civic life. His analysis is quite relevant even in the 21st Century. At present, the primary goal of the rulers is to create troubles for politically conscious people. Attempts are being made across the globe to temporarily resolve the problems of helpless people without finding a permanent solution in order to stay in power. May be, people shall never be self-sufficient, and shall be dependent on the ruler.
Tolerance is quite harmful for the people of a country. If people accept everything, then they would be rendered slaves of the ruler (even in Democracy), and the Constitution or Freedom become irrelevant. In the absence of opposition, there will be no conflict in the society, and also there will be no progress. Unfortunately, human beings have become silent in recent times. Perhaps, they are getting alienated from society. Hence, the Developing Nations are gradually falling behind as far as human resources are concerned. As expected, there is no structural improvement.

If everyone blindly follows the instructions of the rulers, then civil war will be inevitable. Therefore, it becomes necessary to call for a change in a non-political manner, instead of wasting time on negative discussions. It will help people to regain their conscience. Sadly, the intellectual class is busy only with candlelight processions, instead of sensitising common people.
It seems that people get accustomed to the burning issues that they are facing (directly or indirectly) every day. All over the world, people are suffering in silence due to the politics imposed by the rulers. Even protests, resistance, marches, demonstrations and rallies have failed to resolve their problems. With this, people have realised that they have to accept everything in order to adapt to the new way of life. Dictatorship or authoritarianism is running under the cover of democracy in many countries. If one speaks against the ruler, then the person shall certainly get punished. So, the majority of people believe that it is better to comply with everything.

Across the globe, it is seen that every country is eager to protect its own political and economic interests. They are not at all interested about what is happening to the people of neighbouring countries. The birthplace of Lord Jesus Christ, the saviour of mankind, has become a battlefield. Over the past three months, the bloody war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas Movement in the Gaza Strip has claimed more than 23,000 lives, including hundreds of thousands of children. Furthermore, 2.3 million people have become homeless, and hospitals have been destroyed. The Gazans are also facing acute water and food crises. However, people celebrated Christmas in other parts of the world in December 2023. We hardly show sympathy or empathy to the Gazans.

Now, the majority of people are used to being silent spectators. Human beings are showing a strange insensible mentality that is more insensitive than stoic in more than one way, which can never be termed as sensible.
If people fail to learn from the past, then history, for sure, will teach them a lesson!
