A Wake-Up Call For Humanity

Breaking his silence, Chinese President Xi Jinping recently made significant remarks on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Pointing to Ukraine’s growing military proximity to Europe and the US, President Xi said: “The Ukraine crisis has again sounded the alarm for humanity. Countries will surely end up in security hardships if they place blind faith in their positions of strength, expand military alliances, and seek their own safety at the expense of others.” He also condemned the US-led sanctions against Russia, accusing the West of provoking Moscow. President Xi’s statement is significant, as China is the closest ally of Russia.

The Chinese president also urged the US and its Western allies to learn a lesson from History. “Economic globalisation is an objective requirement for the development of productive forces and an irresistible historical trend. Going backwards in history and trying to block other people’s road will only block your own road in the end,” he stressed while commenting on economic sanctions imposed on the Kremlin.

Although President Xi has given no solution, his remarks appear to be of great significance, as his words represent the official stand of China on the Ukraine issue. Nearly four months have passed since Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Still, the bloodbath continues. The US and its Western allies believe that the ongoing war would take a more horrible shape in the long run. Experts in Global Geopolitics are of the opinion that the Chinese President’s remarks are significant in such a situation. The President claimed that the US and Europe made a mistake by supplying weapons to Kiev in an attempt to prolong the war, instead of trying to resolve the crisis.

China is also not happy with Ukraine’s possible accession to the European Union (EU). According to sources close to Beijing, the expansion of the EU shall help the US increase its influence in this region. Both China and Russia believe that the US and the West are providing Ukraine with arms and ammunition in an attempt to destabilise the entire region. In other words, Beijing is worried about the fate of the Ukraine War.
