Urgent UNSC Meeting Called

by Christopher Lewis

Dmitry Polyanskiy, the First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, demanded on April 5 (2022) afternoon a UN Security Council meeting, to discuss the “Ukrainian radicals’ provocation in Bucha”. As far as the Russian position (and it is also denied by the Russian Defence Ministry) on alleged killing of innocent civilians in Ukraine is concerned, the Kremlin has said that all the images and videos, published by the Kiev regime, allegedly testify to some crimes committed by the Russian servicemen in Bucha. According to Moscow, they are just another provocation. The Kremlin has also claimed that the Russian troops left Bucha as early as March 30. Then, Mayor of Bucha Anatoly Fedoruk released a video on March 31, saying that there were no Russian servicemen in the Ukrainian town, and there were absolutely no dead bodies seen in the streets either.

Russia has blasted the Western media and politicians for misleading the global community by spreading fake news. The Kremlin has further claimed that it is just a provocation, but things are pretty clear. I think the obvious question is asked by former Marine Corps Intelligence Officer William Scott Ritter Jr. “Where is the forensic data?” he asked. He has written that whoever makes these claims must provide verifiable medical forensic data, and if people make comments without data, they should stop calling themselves journalists. Basic media forensics should answer three key issues: Time of death, the mechanism of death, and if there were any positional changes in those bodies after their demise.

In light of the fact that the Washington Post already published several articles, with videos showing torture of Russian Prisoners of War by soldiers with insignia of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, there is a very good reason to assume that at least there is a very high doubt about these stories, and the methods fit the radicals much more than the Russian Forces. It did not prevent German Chancellor Olaf Scholz from talking of new sanctions against Russia on April 4 in light of the atrocities committed in Bucha. We shall decide in the circle of allies further measures soon, and so forth. As I said, there was even talk about a total embargo against any kind of import of gas and oil from Russia that would be an absolute self-destruction of Germany.
