CIA Warns Trump, Vance

US President Donald John Trump is optimistic about the signing of a peace agreement with Iran at Switzerland’s mountainside Burgenstock resort on June 19, 2026. However, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is sceptical about whether the Islamic Republic will accept all the conditions laid down by the US. According to a report published by Axios, CIA Director John Ratcliffe has formally warned President Trump, Vice President James David Vance and other senior US officials that intelligence indicates serious doubts about Tehran’s willingness to accept those conditions.

In fact, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defence Peter Hegseth, too, have considerable doubts about Iran’s willingness to accept the conditions. As per intelligence reports, as Tehran is not willing to accept all the conditions set by the Trump Administration, the fragile ceasefire between the two countries faces uncertainty.

However, Vice President Vance and President Trump’s Special Envoy Jared Kushner are optimistic about the peace deal. They are actively promoting the preliminary peace agreement, with Vance tapped to lead the US delegation at the formal signing ceremony in Switzerland. According to media reports, US intelligence agencies privately warned the Vice President that they doubt Iran’s sincerity regarding commitments to never acquire nuclear weapons, raising red flags ahead of his trip to Switzerland. It may be noted that both President Trump and Vice President Vance have electronically signed the framework agreement with Iran’s lead negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Although the US and Iran have reached a preliminary Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the months-long conflict, the finalisation and formal signing of a comprehensive peace agreement remain pending. In the meantime, President Trump has claimed that Iran “agreed to never have a nuclear weapon“. For his part, Vice President Vance stressed that the President would release the agreement before June 19, 2026.

On the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie (France), the US President addressed a press conference in the presence of his French counterpart Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron on June 15, 2026. He commented on the peace agreement with Iran there, stating: “They (Iran) will not possess any nuclear weapons. If Iran had already obtained nuclear weapons, it would have used them against Israel and other nations.

Meanwhile, a senior US official (on condition of anonymity) has said: “The more that the Iranians are willing to work with us on their nuclear programme, on verifying that they are not building a nuclear weapon, on not funding radicalism and terrorism in the region, the more that they are going to be welcomed into the world economy through a combination of sanctions relief and other economic measures.
