US President Donald John Trump announced on May 10, 2025 that India and Pakistan agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire! He wrote on his social media account Truth Social: “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!“

For his part, US State Secretary Marco Antonio Rubio said that he and US Vice President James David Vance spent the past 48 hours with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, stating: “I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site.” He also showered praises on Indian Prime Minister Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Sharif for showing “their wisdom, prudence and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace”.

Soon after President Trump’s announcement, Foreign Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Suar Ishaq Dar wrote on X that Pakistan and India “have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect”, adding: “Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!” Meanwhile, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri revealed that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations spoke with his Indian counterpart over phone at 3:55pm (local time), and the two parties decided that all ground, air, and sea firing would cease at 17:00 (local time).

Later, Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar wrote on social media: “India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”
