Israel Finds Hamas Footprint In India Terror Attack

Israel has found similarities between the Hamas attack on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023 and the April 22 (2025) terror attack in the northern Indian hill station of Pahalgam.

A week after terrorists belonging to The Resistance Front (TRF), a group believed to be a proxy of the banned Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), gunned down 26 innocent tourists in Pahalgam, Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar has claimed that the latest terror attack in Kashmir shows striking similarities to Hamas tactics used in the Jewish Nation. He stressed that the Pakistan-based terrorists not only used helmet-mounted body cams, identity checks and encrypted apps, but also targeted only non-Muslims in a tourist area with high-tech equipment, in a rare first.

Azar told the Press Trust of India (PTI): “Unfortunately, we must confess, these terrorist groups are inspiring each other. There are similarities between the Pahalgam attack and what happened on October 7 (2023) in Israel. Innocent tourists were enjoying their vacation in Pahalgam, while in Israel, people were celebrating a music festival.

According to the Israeli envoy, some senior Hamas leaders, including Dr Khalid Al-Qadoumi and Dr Naji Zaheer, visited the Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) to meet operatives of Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM, a Pakistan-based terrorist organisation) a couple of months before the Pahalgam terror attack, suggesting possible coordination between them. “Terrorism has to be exposed because terrorists enjoy a series of deeds by countries that supply money, intelligence inputs and weapons (to them), which is unacceptable,” stated Azar. He further said: “Countering terrorism requires not just military action, but also efforts to combat incitement. The terrorists are not just using violence. They are inciting violence.” He urged the international community to expose the state sponsors of terrorism, stating that the problem extends much beyond individual terrorists. “I feel all countries should put restrictions on the capabilities of companies to supply services to the extremist elements,” he told PTI.

Meanwhile, Azar welcomed the Government of India‘s decision to take strict diplomatic measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 and immediate shutting down of the Attari land-transit post in view of the cross-border links to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

In a separate development, British Foreign Secretary David Lindon Lammy discussed the current political situation in South Asia with Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar over phone on April 27 (2025). Realising that India would not easily accept the Pahalgam massacre, major Global Powers have started increasing diplomatic pressure on Pakistan to stop sponsoring cross-border terrorism.
