‘Gaza Call’ By Iran And Saudi Arabia…

Hezbollah‘s major missile attack on Israel triggered a significant shift in West Asian geopolitics on August 25, 2024. Hours after the attack, Foreign Ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia held talks over phone, marking a potential pivot of the US’ biggest Arab ally towards Iran!

Reports suggest that Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud discussed current developments in the Gaza Strip on August 25 (2024). During the telephonic conversation, they also discussed ties between their countries and ways to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields. The two Foreign Ministers highlighted the importance of continuing coordination and consultations between Tehran and Riyadh.

As Araghchi and Prince Faisal exchanged views on regional issues of common interest, they stressed on the current humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. They agreed that the ongoing Israeli atrocities in Gaza escalated tensions in West Asia and it is of utmost necessity to put a stop to the Jewish State from committing crimes immediately in order to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement, mentioning that Araghchi and Prince Faisal decided to bring bilateral relations back to the right track by expanding cooperation in different areas. They agreed to continue consultations, noting that such dialogue should align with both bilateral and regional interests. It may be noted that Iran and Saudi Arabia, popularly known as the two arch rivals in West Asia, announced the resumption of diplomatic relations in Beijing in April 2023, after years of estrangement.

Political analysts are of the opinion that the Saudi-Iran friendship shall certainly keep the US on its toes. With NATO ally Turkey already partnering with Russia, the US is seemingly all set to lose its key partner Saudi Arabia in the region. Washington DC is well aware of the fact that cordial ties between the two West Asian nations would pose a serious threat to Israel. Hence, it may prove to be quite difficult for the US to safeguard the Jewish State from its Arab enemies!

Watch: US’ biggest Arab ally switches sides?

As Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey are considered as the main power centres in West Asia, the US has long been taking advantage of the rivalry between these three in an attempt to destabilise the region. However, the equation has changed abruptly, with Tehran and Riyadh planning to boost their ties!
