The death of more than 150 people in terror attacks at the Crocus City Hall music venue in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast on March 22, 2024 stunned the global community! It is still not clear who is actually responsible for this heinous inhumane killing. The Islamic State (IS) initially claimed the responsibility, and French President Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron blasted the Islamist group for carrying out the attack. Reports suggest that the US, too, had warned Russia in this regard. However, experts have expressed doubt over the current strength and organisational capacity of the IS to launch such a terror attack.

The Kremlin has hinted that Ukraine might have conducted the bloody attack. Lack of security arrangements is not an important issue here, as Moscow has rightly said that it is not possible for any country to take anti-terrorism measures 24×7. It is not at all difficult for terrorists to break through the security arrangements, if they want to target unarmed ordinary citizens in any part of the world.

The important question is: Why are some groups planning to target the common Russian people? Perhaps, the state is doing terrible things by hiding behind helpless people, thus encouraging some invisible enemies to take revenge by killing the innocent citizens. The international community is well aware of the fact that Presidential Elections have become a farce in Russia in recent years. When there is nothing left to do in a democratic manner, the oppressed people take other routes in order to send a strong message to the ruler. This introspection is crucial for the Kremlin.

Indeed, this form of terrorism is a devastating one. However, it is being seen that the Islamic terrorists have started targeting some specific countries and places. Less than a week before the terror attacks at the Crocus City Hall, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin won a fifth term as the Russian President. He faced no difficulty to win the Presidential Elections even after more than two years of war with Ukraine that has claimed countless lives and destroyed a huge amount of resources. There may be some connection between these two events.

Russia, one of the greatest world powers, is now plunged into a deep crisis! The saddest thing is that those who do not bear the responsibility of this crisis in any way are the countless common Russians who suffer the most. As usual, the Putin Administration does not bother much about them as any such terrorist attack is ultimately directed at the state, and the state prepares its own response. Of course, people have to pay a huge price after such terror attacks. However, often it is seen that the state hardly does anything, apart from handing over a bit of compensation to the family members of victims.
