Well… the Neanderthals are not the original ancestors of Modern Humans or Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Remains of a previously unknown type of ancient human has recently been discovered at a cement site in Israel. They had arrived on the Earth just before the Modern Humans. According to researchers, they used to live in the vicinity of Homo Sapiens Sapiens settlements in modern day Asia and Africa after the Neanderthals 120,000 years ago. Then came the Modern Humans or Homo Sapiens Sapiens. A recently published Study Paper in Science, the peer-reviewed academic journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, has revealed this fact! The study has been conducted by Israel’s Tel Aviv University.
Researchers have named the newly discovered ancestors of modern humans ‘Nesher Ramla Homo‘. According to the findings, Nesher Ramla Homo, named after the place southeast of Tel Aviv where it was found, had lived alongside Homo Sapiens Sapiens for more than 1,00,000 years and might have even interbred.

The modern route between the eastern Mediterranean region of West Asia and Northeast Africa was too close approximately 125,000 years ago. Scientists call this route Levant. The Levant has been described as the “crossroads of western Asia, the eastern Mediterranean, and northeast Africa“, and the “northwest of the Arabian Plate“. According to researchers, archaeological excavations in this region have unearthed the teeth and several parts of the skull and jaw bones of Nesher Ramla Homo. Initially, it was thought that there were some similarities between the Neanderthals and the Homo Sapiens Sapiens‘ teeth and skull and jaw bones and the Nesher Ramla Homo. However, that is not the case. Those are different from the Neanderthals and Modern Humans, as well. Researchers are of the opinion that the Nesher Ramla Homo were the ancestors of the Neanderthals in Europe! However, they were a link between Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens Sapiens in Asia and Africa.
In a separate development, a 140,000-year-old human skull has recently been recovered in north-eastern part of China. Experts believe that the discovery of this Dragon Man‘s skull may change the existing concept of Human Evolution. The Chinese experts have claimed that the skull belongs to a special species, called ‘Homo Longi‘, whose identity has not been discovered before. They have said that this skull bears a striking resemblance to Modern Humans compared to the Neanderthals. Meanwhile, the study has been published in three different journals.

According to experts, it is clear from the recovered skull that other species of humans, too, existed in the Middle and Late Pleistocene Period, along with the Homo Sapiens. The Pleistocene is the geological epoch that lasted from about 2,580,000 to 11,700 years ago, spanning the world’s most recent period of repeated glaciations. The skull is 23cm long and 15cm wide. Compared to the skulls of Modern Humans, this one is larger in size and also contains much space for the brain. It was the skull of a 50-year-old man. Experts are of the opinion that further study of the skull would help them open up a completely different side of Human Evolution.
