Ushering In Change?
An Islamic Nation, where members of the minority Hindu community are reportedly being abused on a regular basis, recently experienced a change… Pakistan got its first Hindu Woman Police Officer, Pushpa Kohli, a lady from Sindh Province!
Pushpa has joined the Police Force as an Assistant Sub-Inspector. As expected, Kohli’s achievement has triggered a sensation especially among the Hindu community in Pakistan. Kapil Dev, a Human Rights activist, has congratulated Kohli via Twitter, saying that she is the first Hindu who cracked the competitive examination of the Sindh Public Service Commission!

It is to be noted that Suman Pawan Bodani had become Pakistan’s first female Judge from the Hindu community in January. Bodani, also a resident of (Shahdadkot) Sindh, occupied the 54th position in the merit list for the appointment of civil judge/judicial magistrate. Before starting her career as a Judge, she told the media that her family members and neighbours had encouraged her a lot to become a successful person in life. She also said that her achievement would encourage members of the Hindu community to perform well in competitive exams!

In fact, Justice Rana Bhagwandas was the first Judge from the Hindu community, who had also served as the fourth Chief Justice of Pakistan, from 1960 to 1968…
Hindus form the largest minority community in Pakistan, as 7.5 million Hindus (official figure) live in the South Asian country. Interestingly, neighbouring India has the third-largest Muslim population in the world, as it is the home to 11% of the global Muslim population.
