Taliban To Help Iran If US Attacks
The Taliban rulers of Afghanistan have made clear that Kabul would provide Tehran with aid and support, if the US attacks Iran. Zabihullah Mujahid, the Chief Spokesperson of Taliban, made the promise during an interview with the Pashto-language radio service of the Islamic Republic in the third week of February 2026.
Mujahid stressed that Afghans were fully prepared to “cooperate and show sympathy” with the people of Iran, if the US launched a military operation against the West Asian nation. He clarified that Afghanistan would not spontaneously engage in a retaliatory war against the US, saying: “The Taliban does not support war, but could assist the Iranian Nation in dealing with the consequences of such an attack, if Tehran requests assistance in such an event.“

According to the spokesperson, the Taliban does not want any conflict between Iran and the US. Instead, Kabul wants Tehran and Washington DC to resolve all outstanding bilateral issues through peaceful negotiation. Mujahid, meanwhile, claimed that Iran had won the 12-day aerial confrontation with Israel and the US in June 2025 and would win again, if Washington DC would make the same mistake.
The senior Taliban official told the Pashto radio that the success of Iran stemmed from the capabilities of its political system, adding that the Islamic Republic has the right to defend itself. He argued that Iran would defeat the US in the battlefield because it “has the capability, as well as the right, to defend itself”.
Interestingly, Iran is yet to formally recognise the Taliban as the official ruler of Afghanistan. However, Tehran maintains contact and engagement with the Afghan political and militant outfit with an ideology comprising elements of the Deobandi Movement of Islamic fundamentalism and Pashtun nationalism.
