Netanyahu Discusses Gaza Peace Plan With Modi
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin ‘Bibi’ Netanyahu recently made a phone call to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to discuss the current geopolitical situation in West Asia.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) issued a statement in the first week of December 2025, stressing that Prime Minister Modi reiterated New Delhi’s support for efforts towards a just and durable peace in the region, including early implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan. The statement reads: “Both leaders expressed satisfaction at the continued momentum in India-Israel Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening these ties for mutual benefit. The two leaders strongly condemned terrorism and reiterated their zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They also exchanged views on the situation in West Asia. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch.“

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi welcomed the agreement on the first phase of US President Donald John Trump‘s peace plan for the Gaza Strip and also praised Prime Minister Netanyahu, stressing that the agreement was a reflection of the strong leadership of the Israeli Premier. He expressed hope that “the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace“.
Netanyahu made the phone call after his visit to India was postponed, although neither side formally announced the visit. The Israeli Prime Minister was scheduled to visit New Delhi in 2023. However, a surprise attack on Israel by the Palestinian Hamas Movement on October 7, 2023 (in which 1,195 Israelis and foreign nationals were killed and 251 were taken hostage) prompted him to cancel the trip. With a ceasefire now in place with Gaza, both India and Israel are trying to explore the possibility of a visit in early 2026.

The two leaders also spoke over the phone after Netanyahu ordered a military operation in Gaza in response to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. In June 2025, Netanyahu called his Indian counterpart, yet again, to explain the Israeli airstrikes on various military and nuclear facilities of Iran and the subsequent situation.

Incidentally, India continues to advocate for the Two-State Solution as the only viable path to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict, a position it has held consistently for decades. However, Israel has never been willing to accept the idea. The South Asian nation still supports the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian State while simultaneously strengthening its strategic partnership with the Jewish Nation. This policy reflects a long-standing position in Indian foreign policy that has been consistently reiterated by the Modi Administration.
