Breakthrough: Hamas Agrees To Trump’s Gaza Plan
US President Donald John Trump made a 20-point proposal to restore peace in Gaza on September 29, 2025. Although Israel agreed to the proposal, the Palestinian Hamas Movement initially remained silent. Finally, the outfit has agreed to the US President’s proposal.
President Trump also set an ultimatum for the Palestinian Movement to agree to his peace proposal by October 5, 2025, stressing that if the deal was not accepted by 6pm (Washington DC time), “all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas“. On October 4, Hamas issued a statement, praising the US President’s efforts for peace in Gaza and agreeing to release the Israeli hostages. Later, President Trump posted Hamas’ statement on his social media account.

In the statement, Hamas has mentioned: “After a thorough study, the Movement made its decision and submitted the following response to the mediating brothers: The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, appreciates the Arab, Islamic and international efforts, as well as the efforts of US President Donald Trump, calling for an end to the war on the Gaza Strip, an exchange of prisoners, the immediate entry of aid, the rejection of the occupation of the Gaza Strip and the displacement of our Palestinian people from it.”
The statement added: “In this context, and in order to achieve a cessation of hostilities and a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the Movement announces its agreement to release all Israeli prisoners, both living and dead, according to the exchange formula contained in President Trump’s proposal, provided the field conditions for the exchange are met. In this context, the Movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement.”

It further said: “The Movement also renews its agreement to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independents (technocrats), based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support. The other issues mentioned in President Trump’s proposal regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the inherent rights of the Palestinian people are linked to a comprehensive national position and based on relevant international laws and resolutions. They are to be discussed within a comprehensive Palestinian national framework. Hamas will be part of it and will contribute to it with full responsibility.”

Interestingly, Hamas has accepted several parts of President Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in Israel’s nearly two-year genocidal war on Gaza. However, some elements of the proposal require further negotiations. In other words, the Palestinian Movement has agreed in principle only to key points of the US President’s 20-point plan for the war-torn territory. Hamas’ response does not address the issue of disarmament, as the group has stated that it agreed “to release all occupation captives – both living and the remains – according to the exchange formula outlined in President Trump’s proposal, with the provision of field conditions necessary for the exchange”.
After going through Hamas’ carefully crafted statement, the US President wrote on social media that he believed the Palestinian Movement was ready for peace. He also urged Israel to stop the bombing of Gaza in order to ensure the safe and quick return of Israeli prisoners. The US President previously claimed that he wanted to completely eradicate Hamas from the Gaza Strip. Later, he decided to give the Palestinian group a chance to reach a peace deal. The White House has confirmed that President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and senior envoy Steve Witkoff have left for Egypt to begin ceasefire talks.
Meanwhile, BBC has reported that people in Gaza have reacted with shock after the US President appeared to welcome Hamas’ response to his peace plan for the territory. Hundreds of Palestinians flooded social media accounts and messaging apps with questions like: “Has the war ended?” and “Is this a dream or reality?“

It may be noted that the 20-point peace proposal states that Palestinians would not have to leave Gaza. A temporary non-political government will be formed in the Gaza Strip for the time being and it could include Palestinians, as well as experts, from around the world. If Hamas agrees to this proposal, then the outfit would have to release all Israeli hostages within the next 72 hours.

At the same time, Israel would have to gradually withdraw troops from Gaza and to release 250 Palestinians serving life sentences in Israeli prisons. Tel Aviv would also release 1,700 Palestinians detained from Gaza during the Israel-Hamas War. A Board of Peace shall be formed to monitor whether the conditions of the proposal are being met and President Trump himself will be the chairperson of this board.
