US Strikes Iran With Bunker Busters, Conflict Escalates
After repeated warnings, the US launched direct attacks on Iran on June 21, 2025 night. President Donald John Trump, himself, confirmed the news, stressing that the Iranian nuclear facilities were attacked with Bunker Busters. Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Three nuclear sites in Iran have been successfully attacked. They have been bombed. We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.” The President added: “All planes are now outside of Iran’s air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.“
Reuters reported that the US dropped at least six Bunker Buster bombs (also known as the GBU-57 series Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP)) on Fordow nuclear facility from the Northrop B-2 Spirit aircraft. The Stealth Bomber is capable of carrying 15 tonnes of bombs and of performing attack missions at altitudes of up to 50,000 feet.

President Trump described the attack on the Islamic Republic as a “historic moment” for both the US and Israel. At the same time, he hinted that the US was ready to escalate attacks on Iran, if necessary. Apart from using the Bunker Busters, the US Navy also attacked Iran’s two nuclear facilities, Natanz and Isfahan, with 30 Tomahawk missiles. Later, the President stressed: “Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace.”

Meanwhile, Iran has become more active after the US attack on its nuclear facilities. Reports suggest that Tehran launched fresh missile attacks on Israel on June 22 morning. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have confirmed the news, stating that the common people have been asked to stay in safe shelters. Sirens sounded across the Jewish Nation as missiles were seen flying in the sky. Houses collapsed after the Iranian missile struck several Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv.

Issuing a statement on June 22 morning, the IDF mentioned that they detected a number of missiles fired from Iran a short while ago. According to the statement, Israel activated its Air Defence System in an attempt to protect the common people, as well as properties.

Magen David Adom (MDA), the national emergency medical, disaster, ambulance and blood bank service of Israel, has informed the press that several high-rise buildings in Tel Aviv were damaged, while some turned to dust. MDA also released a video of the destruction, mentioning that at least 11 people received serious injuries. Severe damage was reported in Haifa after an Iranian ballistic missile struck the northern Israeli city. Missiles launched from Iran also targeted multiple locations across northern and central Israel, including Nes Ziona and Rishon LeZion. Special Police teams were trying to defuse bombs in different parts of central Israel. Work was also underway to remove the rubble of the collapsed buildings.

Soon after the US attacked the Iranian nuclear facilities, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi called an emergency meeting on June 23, 2025. Earlier, Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Sayyid Abbas Araghchi strongly condemned the US attack, stating: “The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations. The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences. Each and every member of the UN must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behaviour.” He added: “In accordance with the UN Charter and its provisions allowing a legitimate response in self-defence, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest and people.”

Amir Saeid Iravani, the Iranian Ambassador to the UN, has called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting to discuss what he described as the US’ “heinous attacks and illegal use of force” against his country. In a letter obtained by The Associated Press, Iravani mentioned that the most powerful body of the UN must “take all necessary measures” to hold the US accountable under international law and the UN Charter.
