Midterm Elections: Americans Reject Trump
Americans have rejected US President Donald John Trump‘s Republican Party in the US Midterm Elections. From the very beginning of the vote counting on November 4, 2026, Democrats took control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, leaving the Republicans reeling after losing the US Congress. As expected, the Democrats have increased pressure on seats previously held by the Republicans. The Democrats have not only taken full control of the Senate, but also reached a majority of seats in the House of Representatives. It is only the third time in 50 years when a party has lost control of both chambers of the Congress.
As per figures provided by the BBC, the opposition camp has snatched six Senate seats from the Republicans. They have also surpassed 50 seats in the Senate, although it is not possible to predict how many seats the Democrats would ultimately be able to capture. They are also ahead in the race to secure the position of Governor in different states.

Despite the electoral setback, President Trump remains unyielding. In a social media post, he wrote: “I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.” With this, the resident has made an attempt to imply that his popularity remains intact even though the party loses.
When asked about the prospect of a Democratic-controlled Congress in 2027, President Trump told CBS News that he would be able to maintain his grip on national politics, stressing: “I have the ultimate power – it’s called Veto.” According to the President, he is prepared to veto Democratic legislation, if necessary, and welcomes the moniker Mr Veto, in terms of describing his approach to Democrats.
Trump has further claimed that there will be ample opportunity to implement his administration’s policies over the next couple of years, in spite of the Democratic majority in Congress. He believes that his veto power will ultimately compel the Democrats to avoid prolonged legislative conflict. After the election results became clear, President Trump softened his tone somewhat, saying that he was willing to work together with the Democrats.
This year, 35 out of 100 Senators are contesting their seats, while counting is going on for all the 435 seats of the House of Representatives. CNN has reported that the Democrats are leading in 220 seats in the House of Representatives, while the Republicans are ahead in 126 seats.

If the opposition Democratic camp secures a majority in Congress in the Midterm Elections, the Trump Administration will be unable to pass any legislation in both the chambers without their support. Hence, the President will have to govern the country under tremendous pressure for the next two years. An absolute majority in the Congress will allow the Democrats to investigate senior figures in the Trump Administration, and to summon various documents and witnesses, if necessary. They could even initiate the constitutional process to impeach President Trump for a third time.
