He spends millions to become immortal. He recently admitted that he might have taken the experimentation to somewhat excessive lengths in the quest for longevity. Bryan Johnson, the US entrepreneur, venture capitalist, writer, author and the founder of Kernel – a company creating devices that monitor and record brain activity, recently caused a stir by claiming that he stored about 10 mL of his Australian girlfriend Kate Tolo‘s menstrual blood in a -80°C laboratory freezer to study uterine health, screen for environmental toxins and evaluate cellular markers without a surgical biopsy. He shared this information by posting a photo of his girlfriend on his X handle.

Johnson has made countless attempts to reduce his age through various means for a long time. Hence, he frequently makes headlines. This time, he has sparked a storm on social media by revealing that he preserved the menstrual blood of his girlfriend.

On X, Johnson wrote that he stored samples of his girlfriend’s menstrual blood as he believes it could become an important tool for understanding health and detecting diseases. He mentioned: “Kate’s period blood is in my -80 degrees Celsius freezer. Around 10 mL.” Johnson added: “Menstrual blood is valuable and underutilised. We collected to look for diseased tissue, measure microplastics, measure endocrine disruptors and PFAS.“

Johnson continued: “It’s a non-invasive look into the uterus. This is great because you get the data without surgical biopsy, it can be repeated every single cycle and it measures the uterine environment directly instead of inferring it from a standard blood draw. Her sample contains endometrial cells, immune cells and stem cells. She collected the blood during her last cycle.“

Meanwhile, Johnson’s posts quickly went viral, as many people reacted with curiosity, surprise and even discomfort. Although some praised the idea for drawing attention to women’s health, others questioned whether freezing menstrual blood is practical or scientifically useful.
