Safeguarding The Arab World
Israel is reportedly sending Iron Dome, as well as troops, to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in order to thwart Iranian attacks. Incidentally, Iranian missile strikes severely damaged or destroyed key US AN/TPY-2 radar systems, central components of the THAAD air defence system, at bases in Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE in March 2026. Now, the Jewish Nation is deploying the Iron Dome, a system designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4-70km away, to that very region.
In a rare first, the Zionist Regime is deploying this air defence system in another country. Interestingly, the UAE will have the Iron Dome as the third country, after Israel and the US. In the wake of the recent armed conflict in West Asia centring on Iran, the Islamic Republic has carried out the highest number of airstrikes targeting the UAE. According to Abu Dhabi, the Emirati territory has faced around 550 ballistic and cruise missiles, and more than 2,200 drones since the onset of the military conflict on February 28, 2026.
As the UAE became the primary target of attacks during the conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin ‘Bibi’ Netanyahu, himself, spoke with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed. Immediately thereafter, he decided to send the Iron Dome to Abu Dhabi. In addition to deploying air defence systems, Israel is also sending troops to tackle the situation.
It may be noted that Israel shares close ties with the UAE. Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi signed a peace treaty in 2020. Although there have been differences over issues, including Gaza, since then, officials of the two countries have claimed that the partnership is currently the closest it has ever been. Hence, Israel has extended a helping hand to protect its friend.
Netanyahu has decided to share an air defence system with the Emiratis at a time when Israel, itself, was taking heavy fire. Experts are of the opinion that Netanyahu’s decision could provoke backlash in Israel.
Meanwhile, the Emirati officials have claimed that the war with Iran changed the mindset of many people in the UAE. According to one official (who wished to remain anonymous), anyone seen as helping protect the country against Iranian attacks will be seen in a positive way. In an article, Tareq al-Otaiba, a former official at the UAE’s National Security Council, has mentioned that Israel is one of the countries that “have stepped up to provide real assistance to the UAE“. He stated: “Primarily, the US and Israel have proved to be true allies by offering support through extensive military aid, intelligence sharing and diplomatic backing.“
The Iron Dome defence system was developed through a joint venture between Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Limited and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the largest government-owned defence and aerospace company of the Jewish State.
