Russia Releases Super-Secret KGB Files, Shakes US

Russia recently handed over a classified file on the assassination of former American President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (May 29, 1917 – November 22, 1963) to the US. Interestingly, the over 350-page KGB file includes a map of a proposed bridge, connecting the US to the erstwhile Soviet Union. As the US citizens have come to know about the plan of the two Cold War rivals to construct a bridge for better communication, they have called for a Trump-Putin bridge-tunnel link. Political analysts are of the opinion that the secret document might shake the world and reshape global geopolitics.

Anna Paulina Luna, a Congresswoman from Florida who shared the document online on October 16, 2025, stressed that she came to know about the Kennedy-Khrushchev World Peace Bridge only after scanning through the pages. She claimed that Moscow and Washington DC had decided to connect the two continents across the Bering Sea. It may be noted that there is a handwritten note on the map that states: “Could and should be built between Alaska and Russia. At Once.” Luna, also a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, believes that the file could shed light on the KGB’s insights into the assassination of JFK during the height of the Cold War.

On X, Luna wrote: “The following report (referring to) the JFK assassination was delivered to me by the Ambassador from Russia and is now made accessible to the American public at the link below.” She added: “While experts are actively authenticating the legitimacy of these documents, at this time they are believed to be authentic.” Meanwhile, Sputnik, the Russian media outlet, called the document “the Kremlin’s official findings on the JFK assassination“.

JFK was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas while riding in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza. He was struck by two bullets, one in his upper back and a fatal shot to the head. Later, the Warren Commission conducted an official investigation and concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald (October 18, 1939 – November 24, 1963), a US Marine veteran, assassinated the 35th US President. Although the Warren Commission claimed that Oswald had briefly defected to the Soviet Union, conspiracy theories suggest that the CIA, the Mafia or some elements within the US Government were involved in JFK’s murder. Hence, the assassination is still shrouded in mystery.

According to analysts, the timing of the handing over of the classified document on JFK’s assassination by Russia to the US is quite significant. The Kremlin made the move ahead of the meeting between US President Donald John Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin in Budapest. Reports suggest that the two leaders would meet in the Hungarian capital within the next couple of weeks to discuss how to stop the Russia-Ukraine War.

Alaska, the point in the US which is closest to Russia, was a part of Tsarist Russia. Tsar Alexander II had sold Alaska to the US for USD 7.2 million way back in 1867 as he found it difficult and expensive to defend the territory. Two islands, Little Diomede (US) and Big Diomede (Russia), are the closest point (only about 4km apart) between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Kirill Alexandrovich Dmitriev, the Investment Envoy of President Putin, shared an image of the planned Kennedy-Khrushchev World Peace Bridge from the JFK files on X, mentioning: “With modern The Boring Company technology, this could become a Putin-Trump Tunnel connecting Eurasia and the Americas for less than USD 8 billion.” The Boring is a tunnel-construction company owned by Elon Musk. In another post, Dmitriev stated: “Elon Musk, imagine connecting the US and Russia. The Americas and Afro-Eurasia with the Putin-Trump Tunnel, a 70-mile link symbolising unity. Traditional costs are USD 65 billion-plus, but (Musk’s) Boring Company’s tech could reduce it to less than USD 8 billion. Let’s build a future together!

As expected, Dmitriev’s proposal has excited geopolitical experts. In 2016, the Schiller Institute published a report, titled Beijing to Seattle Through the Bering Strait, just after a Global Chinatown Conference. The think-tank stated in its report: “The Bering Strait tunnel will be one of the greatest symbols of the coming end of British imperial geopolitical operations, when the US joins Russia, China and India for a new era of peace through development.

Commenting on the issue, geopolitical expert Mario Nawfal has said: “Some are reviving the idea, calling it a potential Putin-Trump Tunnel connecting Eurasia and the Americas. Could a Cold War dream actually unite the two continents.” He claimed that it was JFK who had suggested the Peace Bridge. At the same time, Nawfal asked: “Why is Putin giving US conservatives access to explosive Cold War-era secrets, at this moment?

It may be noted that Washington DC had sought the KGB files in the 1990s. However, it failed to get access of those files as the Kremlin sent only a summary of the files to the Bill Clinton Administration. Gerald Posner, the author of a bestseller on JFK’s assassination, told The New York Post: “In the ’90s, the files had a price. I think that the Russians providing them is a distraction from what’s going on in Ukraine.” For his part, Jefferson Morley, who would help the Republicans decode the document, told the daily that one needed to be cautious, adding: “Is this a propaganda play? Could be. Clearly, they (the Russians) see some advantage in putting this out there… We have to be really careful.

However, experts have opined that the Trump-Putin Tunnel would certainly have the potential to shake up global geopolitics by prompting various countries to change their allies, as well as alignments.
