Report: Israel Targeted Iranian President

Tehran confirmed on July 12, 2025 that Israel targeted Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during Operation Rising Lion, the Zionist Regime’s largest and most ambitious military strike against the Islamic Republic since the 1980-89 Iran-Iraq War. Launched in the early hours of June 13, 2025, the operation targeted infrastructure within Iran, primarily focusing on nuclear facilities, missile production sites and senior military leadership. The President reportedly received minor injury in an ambush by Israeli airstrikes on June 25.

In a report, the Government of Iran mentioned that the Israeli missiles hit a building situated in the western suburbs of Tehran when a meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council was going on there. As per the report, President Pezeshkian suffered a leg injury. The report revealed that Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i and several top government officials also attended the June 25 meeting with President Pezeshkian.

The Iranian intelligence officials have claimed that Israel planned to carry out the Operation Rising Lion immediately after the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut on September 27, 2024. Apart from the President, other Iranian officials also received injuries as the Israeli Air Force fired six missiles at the entrance and exit of the building so that no one could escape. It may be noted that the Iranian officials were holding the secret meeting on the ground floor.

The electricity was cut off after the explosion and the air was not circulating properly inside the building. As the emergency exit system for high-profile leaders was in place in advance, the security officials immediately took the President to a safe location. Several other officials received minor injuries while leaving the building after the attack. Currently, the Iranian administration is trying to find out the infiltrators who delivered all the information to the enemy camp.

Talking to the media, President Pezeshkian said that Israel tried to assassinate him in the past. “They did try, yes… They acted accordingly, but they failed,” he stressed. The President added: “Thanks to the intelligence by the spies that they had, they tried to bombard the area in which we were holding that meeting.

During the 12-day Operation Rising Lion, Israeli airstrikes eliminated several high-ranking Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists, including IRGC Commander Hossein Salami, Armed Forces Chief Mohammad Bagheri and IRGC Air Force Commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh. However, uranium storage continues at Isfahan nuclear facility of Iran in spite of the missile attacks. As per an intelligence report, Israel and the US may attack Iran again to permanently disarm their enemy.
