North Korea Fighting Russia’s War?
Kim Yo Jong, the sister of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un and a member of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, recently warned neighbouring South Korea, stressing that foreign drones entering the airspace of her country would trigger a disaster! She also warned that the manner in which South Korea and the US were forming an alliance could cause serious danger in the near future! In an interview to the state media, Yo said that her country would always be prepared to defend itself.
Meanwhile, the North Korean Foreign Ministry claimed that Seoul sent drones to carry out propaganda against the Democratic People’s Republic. The ministry also mentioned that the North Korean Armed Forces, capable of destroying the South Korean Army, were stationed at the border. In a statement, the ministry said that Pyong Yang would give a befitting response, if a South Korean drone entered the North Korean territory!

A few months ago, North Korea was accused of sending 300 garbage-filled balloons to South Korea. Just before the incident, Yo had slammed Seoul for carrying out a provocative campaign against Pyong Yang. She told the press that the more enemies would deploy nuclear weapons around North Korea, the more Pyong Yang would be prepared to defend itself.
Since becoming the Politburo member of the Workers’ Party in 2017, Yo has emerged as the Second-in-Command after Supreme Leader Kim. Yo is widely considered as the second most powerful person after her brother, as she leads her country’s foreign policy and heads the agencies in charge of internal political propaganda, and of implementing policy and appointing personnel. Yo first attracted global attention in 2028 when she led North Korea’s Winter Olympic delegation in South Korea. It may be noted that she is the first member of the ruling Kim family to have visited Seoul!

Kim Jong Un has long been at loggerheads with the Western world, especially the US. Yo has secured her place in the list of those who have been sanctioned by the US for Human Rights violations in North Korea! North Korea often conducts missile tests without paying much attention to the US warning. South Korea recently approached the US after considering nuclear weapons tests by North Korea and facing security threats. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol signed a bilateral security pact with his US counterpart Joseph Robinette Biden Jr on April 25, 2024 in Washington DC. Later, Yo warned that if any country dared to take action in the pretext of maintaining peace and security in Asia, then the global peace and stability would be in jeopardy!
According to sources, North Korea has 50 nuclear warheads and also the logistics to make another 70-90 such weapons! The North Koreans are currently working on missiles that could be launched from submarines! As Russia shares cordial ties with North Korea, Moscow is reportedly helping Pyong Yang in defence research. Reports suggest that Kim recently sent North Korean soldiers to Russia to take part in the Ukraine War! Ukrainian President Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy has expressed serious concern over an alliance between Moscow and Pyong Yang.

Foreign Policy experts believe that the Russia-North Korea cooperation is no longer limited to arms, as Kim has started sending soldiers to Moscow. The Ukrainian intelligence agency has informed CNN that some North Korean citizens are working with the Russian Army. The agency has claimed that most of the North Korean nationals are engineers who also exchange various information. As expected, the Kremlin has rejected the claim!
