A Modi(fied) Leadership…

The year 2020 has been markedly different from the other years, as COVID-19 Pandemic rocked the world, creating no less than havoc for the people across the globe. The condition, in a way, of the World Leaders does not form an exception to it, either. They tried their best to tackle the crisis in the ways they felt were the correct moves. However, their popularity started decreasing, as people faced hardship in term of livelihood, social security and health facilities, among other problems. However, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is an exception to it, as he has secured the top position in Global Popularity Ratings, amidst this situation.

In its latest survey, US-based Research Firm Morning Consult has stated that the Indian premier has once again proved that a true leader makes serious efforts to ease the problems of people, even in adverse situation! After tracking the approval ratings of world leaders, Morning Consult has mentioned that Modi’s leadership received 55 rating points, which shows that his popularity has increased the most among all the Global Leaders. As expected, the survey has surprised those who believe that the Indian PM has failed to tackle the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Research Firm has further stressed that more than 75% of Indians are happy with Modi’s performance, while just 20% are unhappy, making the PM’s net approval rating at 55. As far as other top leaders are concerned, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has secured 24 rating points and outgoing US President Donald Trump has received minus 15 rating points (or 70 rating points behind the Indian PM). British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has received negative rating points, as well. It may be noted that Morning Consult is tracking the approval rating for the leaders of 13 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, the UK, and the US. And, the report has been prepared after getting a hand to the real-time insight into the shifting political dynamics.

Apart from the Indian Premier, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison also managed to increase their popularity. Till December 22, 2020, the Mexican President scored 29, one rating point ahead of the Australian PM, who scored 27. French President Emmanuel Macron is occupying the bottom place with minus 25 rating points, as he failed to receive support from his countrymen!
