An Escape To…
He was seen leaving for an unknown destination, deftly dodging the Red Army, in a dark March night, six decades ago! He hardly had any idea what lay ahead… the road he took was not known to him… His mother, sister, brother, as well as some family members and a few trusted officials were seen following him…
He hardly had options other than leaving his palace in Tibet after the Red Army had seized the palace (eight years ago), and taken control of Tibet! It became increasingly difficult for the Tibetans to tolerate the brutality of Chinese forces! After considering the scenario, the Dalai Lama decided to lead a mass movement against the Red Army. As a result, he became the target of the top political leadership in Beijing! The Chinese armed forces could have killed him, if he failed to leave Tibet. Maybe, his family members would not have been spared, too!
The Dalai Lama
On that night, the Dalai Lama was in an Army attire. They walked for more than two days (and two nights). With them, they had carried water and food sufficient to survive for more than a month. When they came near Tsangpo – the mighty river, they realised that they could reach India! They crossed the 1,500ft river in a leather boat made of yak skin… They had to cross a hilly tract even after crossing the river to reach mainland India! The Red Army got the news a couple of days later. The Chinese forces triggered a bloodbath in Tibet, but failed to apprehend the Tibetan Spiritual Leader!
Speaking at an event in New Delhi, the Dalai Lama recently mentioned that China had forcefully conquered Tibet on March 21, 1959 and India had offered him political asylum on April 3! Since then, he has been staying at Dharamshala in the Northern Indian province of Himachal Pradesh. He also said that “it was possible that once he cease to live in his mortal self, his incarnation could be found in India”, where he has lived in exile almost for six decades! At the same time, he was heard uttering a warning that “any other successor named by China would not be respected”!

The Buddhist Monk, revered all over, thus continued: “China considers Dalai Lama’s reincarnation as something very important. They have more concern about the next Dalai Lama than me. In future, in case you see two Dalai Lamas come, one from here, in a free country, and one chosen by Chinese, then nobody will trust, nobody will respect (the one chosen by China). So that is an additional problem for the Chinese! It is possible, it can happen.”
Meanwhile, the 14th Dalai Lama has made it clear that he has no plan to leave India in near Future!
