A New Zeal And Civilisation

The recent terror attack in New Zealand has made one thing clear to the World… that is the word dangerous would cease to be a strong word, in a not-too-far Future… Again, as there are not many other suitable terms, we do not have options other than ‘White Terrorism’ or ‘Christian Terrorism’ to narrate the incident! It is difficult to imagine the amount of hatred that brewed up in a comparatively peaceful country! Of course, this is not the moment to indulge in theoretical discussions on this grave matter, rather it is time to find a proper way to protect the human race!

Brenton Tarrant, the assassin

As usual, some people visited a mosque to offer their prayers… and a gunman also reached there to kill those people (at least some of who must have been innocent)… and the entire episode was recorded! Perhaps, this is for the first time when an assassin or terrorist had placed a camera on his helmet in order to telecast the event live! It seems that the most tragic and dangerous thing in the Christchurch terror attack is to spread the fear of repercussion through the social media! Has Human Civilisation ever witnessed such a bloodbath (in this game of spreading terror) in such a way? One may recall, perhaps, the first Gulf War!

Developments in Science & Technology have made the human race the omnipotent one and human beings, powerful thus, have learnt how to misuse Technology. It is a fact that Facebook, Twitter and other social media organisations decided to stop the live streaming of this event almost with immediate effect… But, the damage had already been done! People across the globe had already viewed the same, and many of them definitely had downloaded the streaming! The Christchurch event proved it yet again that a proper utilisation of technological achievements cannot be possible with intelligent, as well as crooked human beings around! Hence, it is to be thought of what best can be done with terrorism in the bloodthirsty digital age! Can this be surmised that the present civilisation is not worthy of such extraordinary achievements?

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern meets representatives of the Muslim community at Canterbury refugee centre

Sorrow, panic, empathy and sympathy dragged along, may take us all to promises of hope… but, it is important for us to have a good sense that would prevail! The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, has been commended around the world for her strong yet compassionate handling of this shooting en masse… and, following the brutal slaying of around 50 people belonging to the Islamic faith by fitness trainer Brenton Tarrant at two mosques in Christchurch on March 15, the PM said: “We are a proud nation of more than 200 ethnicities, 160 languages. And amongst that diversity we share common values. And the one that we place the currency on right now is our compassion and support for the community of those directly affected by this tragedy. And secondly, the strongest possible condemnation of the ideology of the people who did this. You may have chosen us, we utterly reject and condemn you.

Her statement would certainly inspire other nations in the era of terrorism. She rightly said that her nation had to experience all these as New Zealand has become the land of plurality. PM Ardern further mentioned, that too clearly, in a fearless manner that her government would protect the plurality at any cost! It is to be noted that other heads of the government usually declare war and take oaths of bloodshed after such a terror attack. Unlike them, Ardern has tried to provide her countrymen with relief. Other leaders should learn from the prime minister of New Zealand how to reject violence.

Whether they have a desire to learn is a different question altogether!
