A Place More Mysterious Than Bermuda Triangle!

The Bermuda Triangle is widely considered as one of the most mysterious places in the world. It is one such puzzle that has always intrigued people. Be it a ship or an aircraft, once it enters the region, its whereabouts cannot be traced, at times! Many ships and aircraft are said to have vanished mysteriously there. This imaginary triangle formed by the three corners of the Atlantic Ocean has Florida in the US on one vertex, Puerto Rico on the second and the Caribbean Islands on the third vertex. Sand’s article in Fate described the area as “a watery triangle bounded roughly by Florida, Bermuda and Puerto Rico“, with the total area varying from 1.3 to 3.9 million sqkm (or 0.50 to 1.51 million square miles).

Several mysterious events took place in the Bermuda Triangle from 1945 to 2017. Many ships and aircraft disappeared under mysterious circumstances while passing through this imaginary triangle! While the remains of some were recovered later, others’ have not been found till date. In the past, it was believed that evil forces exist in this particular region. Hence, the Bermuda Triangle is also known as the Devil’s Triangle!

Interestingly, there are more such triangles in the world and one of them is the Alaska Triangle. It is a region where more people have disappeared than anywhere else in the world! Around 20,225 people have mysteriously disappeared in the Alaska Triangle, located roughly around three points of Anchorage and Juneau in the south, and the northern coastal city of Utqiagvik, since 1972!

According to the IFL Science website, this area first came to public attention way back in October 1972 when US House Majority Leader Thomas Hale Boggs Sr and Alaska Congressman Nick Begich disappeared while flying in a light aircraft from Anchorage to Juneau. Begich’s aide Russell Brown and pilot Don Jonz were also onboard. The US launched a massive search operation to find the four missing people. However, neither the bodies nor the aircraft were ever discovered!

It may be noted that Boggs was one of the members of the Warren Commission which was established by former US President Lyndon B Johnson on November 29, 1963 to investigate the assassination of his predecessor John Fitzgerald Kennedy that had taken place on November 22, 1963. However, Boggs did not agree with the report prepared by the Commission! Hence, it is believed that his disappearance was indeed a mystery!

Another notable event is the disappearance of Gary Frank Sotherden. Sotherden was a 25-year-old resident of New York who travelled to the Alaskan wilderness in the mid-1970s for hunting, but never returned! Two decades later, a human skull was found along the Porcupine River in northeastern Alaska (in 1997). Researchers carried out a DNA test of the skull in 2022 and claimed that the skull belonged to Sotherden who had most probably died after being attacked by a bear!

Many others have disappeared in the Alaska Triangle and experts have given different explanations for their disappearance! Some believe that aliens often visit that area and that is why people go missing while passing through the region. Others are of the opinion that a certain place in that area is full of natural hazards and people disappear while passing through that particular place. It is also said that UFOs, ghosts and aggressive Bigfoot or Yeti-like creatures have been spotted in the Alaska Triangle. Some have reportedly seen triangular UFOs, while others have experienced strange phantom voices and disorientation! Experts have speculated that the sparse population makes Alaska an attractive place for aliens, while some have suggested secret military involvement in this area.

Many believe that there is an unusual magnetic activity in the Alaska Triangle that creates trouble for the visitors! According to experts, it is quite difficult to solve the mystery of the Alaska Triangle that is full of wilderness and natural dangers.
