She is known to have penned a novel, titled ‘How to Murder Your Husband’, a decade ago. Recently, a 12-member Portland jury in the US has found award-winning author Nancy Crampton-Brophy guilty of killing her husband Daniel Brophy in June 2018.

The US Police have claimed that they recovered the bullet ridden body of Daniel, a chef by profession, from the kitchen of the Oregon Culinary Institute (OCI) on June 2, 2018. As he was shot from behind, the bullet pierced his heart. He died at the age of 63. Meanwhile, investigators revealed that Nancy had purchased a gun from an online store before the murder. Interestingly, she murdered her husband in the same way she had narrated in her essay. Nancy had authored two more novels in the past… ‘The Wrong Husband’ and ‘Hell on a Heart’. Incidentally, murder, crime, betrayal and sex are the main themes of all her works.

On May 25 (2022), Nancy showed no visible reaction to the verdict in the crowded Multnomah county courtroom. Later, Lisa Maxfield, one of her lawyers, said that the defence team would appeal against the verdict.

Meanwhile, Nancy claimed that her presence near the Culinary School on the day of her husband’s death was just a coincidence. In one of her 2011 posts on the social media, she stressed: “I find it is easier to wish people dead than to actually kill them. I don’t want to worry about blood and brains splattered on my walls. And really, I’m not good at remembering lies. But the thing I know about murder is that every one of us have it in him/her when pushed far enough.”

Nancy, who has been in custody since her arrest in September 2018, would be sentenced on June 13, 2022.
