A Friend Request…..

They have made the offer!
The Taliban militants have evinced interest in maintaining ‘friendly’ ties with India…. In fact, the Sunni Islamic fundamentalist political movement based in Afghanistan has said that it is ready to maintain cordial ties with all countries, except United States of America.
Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid recently met the press to reveal their future strategy for Afghanistan. He said that the Afghan people should control the administration in Kabul, or else foreign forces would completely ‘destroy’ the war-ravaged South Asian nation. He clarified that the Afghan forces, and not the common people, are the main target of Taliban attacks.
The outfit carried out two gruesome terror attacks in Kabul within a gap of seven days in January. The first one took place in Intercontinental hotel, where 25 people were killed on January 20. The second attack destroyed a check post near the Afghan Home Ministry. The headquarters of ‘Peace Council’, which is mediating between the Afghan government and the Taliban, are also situated there. The Afghan administration claimed that the terrorists’ main target was the Peace Council office. The attack claimed 95 lives and injured more than 150 people.

The spokesperson once again claimed that common people were not their enemies and they were working hard for the betterment of the country. Asked why the Taliban refused to join the peace process, Mujahid said that only they could bring peace.
It is not the first time when the terror outfit has shown interest in maintaining cordial ties with India. In June 2012, the Taliban praised India for resisting American pressure on Afghanistan. It had said in a statement: “No doubt that India is a significant country in the region… They are aware of the Afghans’ aspirations, creeds and love for freedom. It is totally illogical they should plunge their nation into a calamity just for the American pleasure.”
Experts are of the opinion that the Taliban wants to make “friendship” with India because their leaders are well aware of the fact that New Delhi is an important partner of Kabul as far as development projects are concerned. Although the Afghan government is receiving aid also from China, the Asian giant’s proximity with Russia – Taliban’s old enemy – (possibly) worries the Taliban leadership.
At the same time, experts have advised the Indian government not to fall into the trap of Taliban’s. It’s not possible for New Delhi to maintain friendly ties with an outfit that backs the Kashmiri separatists.
