Tulsi Gabbard, the just-departed Director of US National Intelligence (DNI), has claimed that Dr Anthony Fauci, the noted US scientist and adviser of former President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr, funded the laboratory in China’s Wuhan that sparked the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020. Before officially leaving her position as the DNI on June 19, 2026, she released some explosive documents which had never come to light before. Those documents contain the evidence supporting Dr Fauci’s activities.

When coronavirus began to spread in the US in early 2020, the Donald Trump 0.1 Administration took several measures to tackle it. Later, the Biden Administration, too, implemented various policies to address the issue. Dr Fauci reportedly led those initiatives. Although Dr Fauci, the former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), did not directly provide grants to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded a grant to the US-based EcoHealth Alliance, which then sub-awarded a portion of the funds to the WIV for bat coronavirus research. Gabbard even claimed that Dr Fauci attempted to cover up the fact that the virus spread from the WIV.

Gabbard stressed: “The tactics used to hide the truth are straight from the deep state playbook: politicised self-serving leaders, like Dr Fauci, covered up their own wrongdoing and abuses of power, manipulated intelligence, lied to Congress and undermined a duly elected President by restricting his access to vital facts needed to keep the country safe. It’s time the American people learn the real story.“

Dr Fauci served as the Director of the NIAID for exactly 38 years. According to Gabbard, Dr Fauci was the mastermind behind the COVID-19-related conspiracy as he utilised a select, trusted group of virologists to compel intelligence agencies to accept the Theory of Natural (or Zoonotic) Origin. This theory proposes that SARS-CoV-2 evolved in the wild and spilled over from an animal host into the human population. The former DNI also claimed that the scientist did this to conceal his own dangerous and risky research. In a statement, Gabbard mentioned that Dr Fauci promoted a “deceptive research paper“, the publication of which he reportedly helped facilitate, and subsequently presented it to intelligence officials as legitimate.

According to Gabbard, the records reveal previously undisclosed contacts between Dr Fauci and intelligence officials, and alleges that Dr Fauci’s congressional testimony conflicts with those records. The release also revives questions about US-funded coronavirus research linked to Wuhan and includes whistleblower allegations regarding internal discussions over the Lab-Leak Theory. In her statement, Gabbard said: “The COVID-19 pandemic caused tremendous hardship and pain for millions of our fellow Americans and for countless people around the world. After years of lies, censorship and cover-ups, the American people deserve transparency, truth and accountability. Dr Fauci lied to Congress while under oath in 2024.” She added that there were links between US-funded research, the Wuhan Institute of Virology and actions by Dr Fauci.

Dr Fauci’s 2024 congressional testimonies focussed mainly on the pandemic’s origins, gain-of-function research and his communications with intelligence agencies. While he was repeatedly questioned about his interactions with the intelligence community, these inquiries centred on whether he steered them away from the lab leak theory, rather than on virus testing itself. The scientist is accused of repeatedly evading questions. Also, Dr Fauci allegedly used intimidation to silence those speaking on COVID-19 origins.

Dr Fauci previously denied involvement in any cover-up, saying that a laboratory accident should not automatically be treated as a conspiracy theory. “The newly released documents are expected to face extensive scrutiny,” he stated.

Reports suggest that White House reportedly forced Gabbard to resign after she was sidelined from Iran and Venezuela operations. With this, she becomes the fourth woman to depart Trump’s Cabinet.
