The world’s most amazing pyramids stand in the desert. There are thousands of mysteries surrounding them, as no one knows who built some of those pyramids. There are several opinions. The pyramids are believed to be born in Egypt. However, pyramids have also been found outside of Egypt and they have a number of similarities with Egyptian pyramids. It has recently been revealed that there is a pyramid in the ice-covered Antarctica, as well!

According to Conspiracy Theorists, although Antarctica is covered by ice and has no permanent human settlements, there is a pyramid hidden beneath the ice. After watching some satellite images, some social media users, too, have come to the conclusion that there is a pyramid buried in the ice in Antarctica. Satellite images show a pyramid-shaped structure sticking out of the ice on the southern flank of the Ellsworth Mountains. Interestingly, its structure reportedly has similar measurements at its base to the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. The Ellsworth Mountains are the highest mountain ranges in Antarctica, forming a 350km-long and 48km-wide chain of mountains in a north to south configuration on the western margin of the Ronne Ice Shelf in Marie Byrd Land.

The question arises here: Where did the pyramid come from? It is to be noted that the Ellsworth Mountains have several peaks that, though triangular in shape, have square bases and extend up to 2km in each direction. The shape of these peaks is just like the pyramids of Egypt. Conspiracy theorists have claimed that they are pyramids and somehow, they were transported from Egypt to Antarctica! Others have opined that the secret organisation, Illuminati, is behind the pyramid-like structure in Antarctica. Meanwhile, a section of researchers is of the opinion that human beings had built the pyramid 10,000 years ago! At that time, Antarctica was warm and was not covered by snow.

Dr Mitch D’Arcy, a Geomorphologist and Sedimentologist at the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam (or GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, Germany’s national centre for research into the solid Earth), has said: “The pyramid-shaped structures are located in the Ellsworth Mountains, which is a range more than 400km-long, so it is no surprise there are rocky peaks cropping out above the ice. The peaks are clearly composed of rock, and it is a coincidence that this particular peak has that shape.” He added: “It is not a complicated shape, so it is not a special coincidence either. By definition, it is a nunatak, which is simply a peak of rock sticking out above a glacier or an ice sheet. This one has the shape of a pyramid, but that does not make it a human construction.” Eric Rigot, a Geology Professor at the University of California, stated: “This is just a mountain that looks like a pyramid.“

The Ellsworth Mountains were discovered by Lincoln Ellsworth in 1935, and are set within Chile’s Antarctic territorial claim. As per the records, the Ellsworth Mountains see an average temperature of minus 30 degree Celsius, making this area accessible only for a brief season to explore, with the optimum period for trips being November to January.
