An Astonishing Sight!

He is popularly known as a ruthless ruler. However, Kim Jong-un – the Supreme Leader of North Korea – has recently been seen shedding tears! In a rare first, he has also apologised for his failures to his countrymen! Not only North Korea, but the entire world witnessed such a scene…

The incident happened during the celebrations of the 75th Anniversary of the ruling Workers’ Party of North Korea. A military parade was organised in Pyongyang on that occasion before President Kim addressed the Nation. While delivering the speech, the authoritarian ruler reportedly stated: “Our people have placed trust, as high as the sky and as deep as the sea in me, but I have failed to always live up to it satisfactorily. I am really sorry for that.” He was seen removing his glasses, as he wiped his tears. Later, the Korea Times released a video of his address. He also thanked the soldiers of North Korea for dedicating their lives to the Nation.

On the occasion, the North Korean Leader announced that the Army recently reached a construction level of 60% for nearly 2,300 houses in the Komdok region of South Hamgyong Province to provide the homeless with shelters. He said that immediately after natural disasters had destroyed so many houses, his administration decided to construct 25,000 houses during the five-year plan that would be unveiled in January 2021…

Kim was also heard saying: “Although I am entrusted with the important responsibility to lead this country upholding the cause of the great comrades Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il thanks to the trust of all the people, my efforts and sincerity have not been sufficient enough to rid our people of the difficulties in their lives.

People hardly remember the last time when North Korea witnessed such an emotional scene. Experts believe that President Kim is under tremendous pressure because of that. The pressure has been exacerbated by recent natural disasters. Kim, in his speech, also hinted that he would try to improve diplomatic ties with neighbouring South Korea. “It is important to look at why he has come to shed tears at such an occasion. Underneath his message, one can sense that Kim is feeling a lot of pressure on his leadership,” stressed Hong Min, the Director of the North Korea Division at the Korean Institute for National Unification.
