She is tough on the outside, but soft in the inside. The lady, who usually laughs loudly, fails to control her emotions when she comes across the sad story of others. Living in Louisville, the 59-year-old Angela Renfro is popularly known as Kentucky’s Mother Teresa.
Angela doesn’t really like her comparison with the great people. She said: “Don’t compare me with great personalities. I’m just doing my job. I’m trying to find a room to accommodate 19 girls.” She has rescued those trafficked girls from different parts of the US and provided them with shelters at her own residence. Her main challenge is to bring them back to normal life. And she has been doing this for the last 20 years.

Angela – the Executive Director of the KristyLove Foundation – said that her story started when she was just three-year-old and was raped by someone she knew. “I always thought in order to get someone to like me, love me, that I had to use my body,” she told the media. Angela admitted that her mindset and the ‘shame’ (of being raped) had prompted her to take prostitution as a profession. “I started at the age of nine. I am also a victim of human trafficking,” she further said, revealing that she had used the name ‘Kristy Love’ for more than 20 years. “One of my tricks gave me my name,” she insisted.
Later, the victim turned the saviour, as Angela created the KristyLove Foundation in Louisville and also opened three shelters for trafficked girls. She opined that traffickers mainly target drug addicted American girls and force them into prostitution. According to Angela, more stringent laws are needed to tackle traffickers.

Angela treats the rescued girls as her own daughters. They do all kinds of jobs, including taking care of guests, at Angela’s residence. Their saviour teaches them to prepare foods, exercises and different vocational works. Angela claimed that these abused (both physically and mentally) girls are scared and she tries to help them overcome the trauma.
Commenting on her future plan, Angela said that her main aim was to make the women self-sufficient and to teach them how to get a job so that they would not go back to prostitution and their abusers. “When I think about it, sometimes it amazes me. I have to pinch myself. How did I really get out?” she added.
Angela is the most respected person in Kentucky. Her neighbour Harris said: “I have never seen Mother Teresa. Angela is our Mother Teresa.”
