Triumph: Off The Trump Card!

As January 20, amongst other things, also witnessed one year since the swearing-in of President Donald Trump, there seemingly is little room for analysis of situation, contemplation and may be – action!
Mr Trump is not an ‘ordinary’ president and never an ‘ordinary’ person. We can compare the way he sees the world with a puerile point of view. For the last one year, he has been ruling the world’s most powerful nation just like a child, some say. Immediately after assuming the office, he got rid of the things that he dislikes. He didn’t even think twice before taking actions.
While campaigning ahead of the Presidential Elections, Trump had made clear that he was against the ‘Paris Climate Deal’. And in June 2017, the US pulled out of the agreement, although the president was well aware of the fact that the US could not leave the treaty (legally) until 2020. It is said that he doesn’t like the African-Americans….so he launched verbal attacks on African and Caribbean nations. He likes Israel…….so, he declared Jerusalem as the Israeli capital without caring to study the entire history of diplomacy. He described Iran as a ‘murderous regime’ in UN speech and also called North Korean leader Kim Jong-un the ‘Little Rocket Man’. In the last one year, he has made clear that he can easily do those which can’t be done in a democratic country. He can never be considered an ‘ordinary’ person…..and of course, he is the most powerful person in the United States of America.

In the last one year, he has somehow shown that his actions can be termed by some as entertaining, but can seldom be instrumental in resolving problems. However, he deserves credit for not trying to prove himself as a ‘different’ person after winning the Presidential Election. He is still like what he was. The American people elected him president and he is trying hard to keep promises that he had made ahead of the election. Many leaders had come to power after making ‘big’ promises and promptly forgot them after getting elected….. But, President Trump is an exception…..he is not like them! He didn’t disappoint his supporters. The US is yet to build a wall at its borders with Mexico. But, it’s not the fault of the president……he has tried his best! For many, it has been difficult to comprehend the seriousness of his words. But, people are slowly realising that President Trump loves to walk his talk.
He became the president through a democratic process. So, the democratic society will have to decide how to effectively deal with his dreams, trims, whims and reality in the present grim situation. Democracy in the US (as well as in the entire world) is facing a grand test – the Trump Cards. The president – who has come to power through a democratic system – is all set to put an end to it. It is time the ‘system’ has to make a decision. It is said that difficult times make tougher people or challenges give birth to greater duties and responsibilities. Perhaps, democracy would be taught how to triumph.
