Authenticity: Indian Media Way Ahead Of US’
As far as the credibility, neutrality and integrity of the news are concerned, the Indian media have been placed way ahead of the American media. The majority of the people in India believe that news – carried out by the local media – are much more credible, impartial, informative and accurate. However, Americans don’t think so.

The Pew Research Centre – a nonpartisan American think-tank based in Washington that provides information on social issues, public opinion and demographic trends shaping the US and the world – recently conducted a survey in different countries, including India, Japan, France, the US and Britain, to judge the quality of media coverage. In its report, the centre expressed satisfaction over the performance of the Indian media.

As per the ‘Spring 2017 Global Attitudes Survey’, around 80% of Indians think that the reports – provided by the Indian media – are correct. Interestingly, the global average is way behind in this regard – 62%. Only 7% of Indians are of the opinion that there is no credibility, authenticity and accuracy in news served by the Indian media. Meanwhile, 43% of the Americans think the same about the US media.

The survey further reveals that 65% of Indians believe that the local media remain unbiased while covering political news. And the credibility is 72% in case of news on ministers and bureaucrats. The Indian media have more credibility than the French, British, Russian and Japanese media as far as political news are concerned.

However, it is also a fact that the survey has been carried out on the basis of opinion expressed by the people of different countries. The most important factor is how they consider the credibility of their local media. The purpose of the new cross-national survey was not to find out how the people of different countries judge the global media.
