Indian Women’s New Responsibility

The type (and concept) of war has changed in recent times. Nowadays, war is not limited to land, water and sky. The control or seizure of the cyber world has become a part of war. So, all the countries are taking various measures to prevent cyber attacks.
The Indian Army has decided to recruit female soldiers in order to safeguard the cyber sector of the country. Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat recently confirmed the news, saying that he discussed the issue with his senior commanders. Speaking at a media conference in New Delhi a couple of days ago, he said that the decision would be implemented in near future. According to General Rawat, the Indian Army is eager to utilise the women officers “more advantageously”.

Meanwhile, a senior Army officer said: “The force has plans of utilising the women officers more effectively in new cadres, such as cyber, which is a fast emerging trade in the Armed Forces as they face major cyber security threat from both state and non-state actors.”

The officer, who wished to remain anonymous, also said that India should be prepared to face cyber attacks, as different militant and terror outfits are planning to target the South Asian country’s cyber sector. So, the Army has decided to recruit more female soldiers as soon as possible to protect this sector. At the same time, he stressed that General Rawat would meet his officers again before making an official announcement.

The officer informed the press that women officers would have to undergo a language training course in the coming days. He explained that cyber warfare is fast developing and it becomes one of most important fields of concern for the Armed Forces because their networks and computers are continuously under the threat from adversaries, like neighbouring China and Pakistan.
The Indian Army, Navy and Air Force will soon come up with a cyber warfare agency under the integrated defence staff. The main task of the agency will be to tackle the attacks and to create an offensive capability to deal with the issue.
